Curtain Wall
Components
The General components of the Blast & Ballistic Resistant Curtain Wall sections
consist of:
- A Main Frame / Mullion Profile – 175mm x 86mm;
- A Standard Transom Profile – 86mm x 86mm.
Glazing options accommodate 34mm single glaze through to 52mm units directly into
the curtain walling. All other window and door systems are directly compatible with
the addition of purpose designed outer frames or closer channels.
As with all other Safe Zone Ballistics LLC products, manufacturing is to exacting standards
giving economy with required strength, and many years of aesthetic, trouble-free
operation.

Manufacture & Assembly
The Safe Zone Ballistics LLC Curtain Wall system is designed as a "stick" system, therefore
mullions and transoms are transported to site as prepared components and the grid
work is assembled onto the building in stick form.
Carefully designed fixing brackets allow the curtain walling to be fixed back to the
structure easily and securely so that all loads are transferred back to the buildings
main structural form.
Expansion joints are allowed on every floor or every other floor to accommodate any
building movement.
Special care has been taken to design high performance gaskets which will ensure
the long term weather-tightness of the system. Internal gaskets have preformed
corner joints to avoid any in-continuity in the internal seal, which is regarded as the
critical seal.
Glazing
The Window and Door System can incorporate Glass up to a thickness of 38mm and
has a Rebate Depth of 35mm.
In the Standard Window Appliance the Frames are Externally Glazed, using a
profiled glazing bead that is screw fixed, with a flat cover plate snapped on top.
In an Open Out Door, the Frames are Externally Glazed, whereas in an Open In
Door, the Frames are Internally Glazed.
The Curtain Wall Frames are also Externally Glazed using a Pressure Plate and
Cover Cap.
Handles
The Opening Window Vents can be operated, either by the use of the Standard Multi-
Point Locking System and Handle, or by the use of a Cockspur Handle or Chain
Winder.
The Opening Door Sash is operated, by the use of the Standard Multi-Point Locking
System and Handle Set.
Materials
Aluminum profiles are extruded from 6060T6, T5 or T4 aluminum alloy complying
with the requirements of BS EN 12020-2: 2001. Polyamide thermal barriers are
produced from glass reinforced nylon sections designed to withstand temperatures in
excess of 200°C. Glazing gaskets and weather strips are manufactured from co extruded
PVC Nitrile or from extruded neoprene.
Two Color Finish Options
The thermal break sections are constructed from two separate extrusions, which are
joined together with a pair of polyamide thermal barriers. Since it is possible to join
the extrusions together after painting, Safe Zone Ballistics LLC can offer the Client the
advantage of a section constructed from two pre-finished extrusions with the option
of a different color (or finish) inside and outside.
The aluminum alloy sections can be provided in any of the following range of finishes:
- Natural or color anodized to BS1615 or BS3987;
- Liquid organic coated to BS4842;
- Powder organic coated to BS6496.
